Lisa's Story
Life
I am definitely not the same person from high school. After finishing college and venturing out in the real world I've learned who I am without the influence of my parents. Distinctly I remember fearing people at ASH. I was insecure in myself and felt like a firetruck in cathedral.
I love my life. God has blessed me with the best husband in the world and 2 precious boys. Did I say precious? There boys okay? Caleb is 10 and Noah is 7.
We are extremely involved with the life and developement of our boys. We do everything with them.
I don't look anything like I did at ASH. Most people don't recognize me. I had a revelation in my early 30's and I'm comfortable with me. I still sing every chance I get. My favorite music is contemporary christian. I'm very involved in my church, the Pentecostals of Alexandria.
I never went on one single date during high school, mostly because of my over-protective father. But God had bigger things on the agenda and I'm extremely blessed. I married my college sweetheart, my best friend. Chris is the love of my life. I have been the Administrative Director of Natchitoches Women's Care, an OB/GYN clinic for 7 years now. I love it! I know, I know. How did I end up with that out of a music degree?
We bought an older home and spend most of our time as weekend warriers. Our TV stays on HGTV a lot. There are great rewards when you accomplish things on your own....Expand for more
Thats the way I've spent all of my adult life.
I could probably count on my hands the people I've seen since graduation. I can't believe I haven't hardly seen anyone. My best girlfriend is still Deah Barker Adams. Both of my parents are still alive and remarried and remarried.
I wish I knew in high school what I know now. I wouldn't have been so scared to talk to people who ordinarilly wouldn't give me the time of day. I would know that it's okay to be different. I've learned that the even the best, brightest, beautiful and smartest had imperfections like me. Well, maybe not Pam Simpson. She's awesome. Talk about the total package. Often thinking to myself I was drawn to hang with the "underdogs" but now I know that I ran with the cream of the crop. I was actually the "underdog" all along.
I'm still very proud and amazed at what I accomplished at ASH. Where did I ever get the nerve to do all that I did? Thank you everyone for allowing this big ole girl with 7 inches of make-up to be all that I could be.
I'm excited and a little aprehensive about seeing all my old friends and people I was too scared to even talk to at the 20-year reunion. I'm fascinated with the change in people.
